Artistic Practice

Lukas Wilde is a founding member of the performance-collective „Die Kastenwesen“ e.V. with Germany-wide performances at theater and music festivals annually since 2011 (such as with the Domfestspiele Bad Gandersheimer 2013, the theatre festival Arena of the young Arts Erlangen 2011, 2012, and 2015, at the Zeitzeug_Festival 2015 Bochum as the winner of the Freifahrt-Award, at the Performing Arts Festival (PAF) in Berlin 2018, the Fest für Vielfalt (FfV) Aschaffenburg 2021-2026 or the Kommz-Festival Aschaffenburg 2019, 2026; see work biography). Together with Kilian Wilde (www.wilde-grafik.com) he is also sometimes creating comics, such as Königin der Lügen (NextArt, 2010), as finalists for the international comic competition Animate Europe with their contribution „Bordering/Grenzerei“ (2013), as well as with the short-story Voynich (page #1 to the left) for the comic-anthology JAZAM! # 11: Abenteuer and their comic Der Aschekönig in JAZAM! # 13: Schreckgeschichten (2018).

This artistic practice is also reflected in Lukas Wilde's teaching: At the University of Tübingen, he headed the „Tübinale – Tübingen’s Student Film Festival“ for many years and designed innovative new knowledge transfer formats for MA students, combining elements of TED Talks, Pecha Kuche, and Ignite. At NTNU Trondheim, he expanded the interdisciplinary „Experts in Teams“ master class into a lecture-performance seminar, where students were able to design public spectacle productions with and about AI for approximately 100 attendees each; on April 10, 2023 („A.I. Caramba: Five AI-Driven Performances from Performers who don't Usually Perform!“) and on April 10, 2024 („Oops!... AI did it again!“).

Digital Artist Initiative, Impact

Outside of academia, Lukas Wilde is co-founder and treasurer of the non-profit organization „Comic Solidarity e.V.“, an initiative for digital artists and self-publishers founded by Eve Jay. Comic Solidarity advocates for greater diversity and recognition within the German comic, manga, and illustration scene. It particularly values artists from marginalized groups, recognizing their importance and deserving of support, as they are often underrepresented or overlooked within established systems. This commitment was recognized in 2015 already with the ICOM Independent Comic Award for „Special Achievements.“

In 2019, Comic Solidarity also established the GINCO Award which has since been endowed with €1,500 annually. Funding comes exclusively from donations and membership fees. The award is given by an independent, annually rotating committee of experts, critics, and researchers. GINCO aims to recognize independent comics in an inclusive, transparent, and high-profile manner, thereby complementing and expanding existing German comic awards and structures. It has already received numerous accolades from the German press, and the award ceremonies have taken place at all major German comic conventions and cultural events (Comic Salon Erlangen, Comic Invasion Berlin, Connichi Wiesbaden, Comic-Con Stuttgart).

Workshops

Together with comics artist and illustrator Kilian Wilde, Lukas offers Comic-Workshops like „Animate Europe: Drawing Europe's Future“, organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) in cooperation with the European Commission in Bonn (April 6&7 2017) and FNF in Lübeck (May 7 2017), or „Comics in School [Subject German]“ at the University of Bielefeld (July 12 2019). Within an 8-hour programme, participants learn how to develop a character, establish a situation, create narrative sequences and, finally, a story in comic-form. No artistic genius is required, „Comics are Communication!“.
